I'm not normally someone who listens to classical music in my free time. As a matter of fact, the only classical music I know are the bits and pieces I gleaned from Little Einsteins episodes as a child, as well as the fragments I remember from when I played piano (but we don't talk about that). Anyways, I've been challenged to expand my musical horizons by one of my friends - he writes a blog here, which I love reading, even though most of the time I have no idea what he's talking about. Last week, I jokingly suggested that he review one of the greatest bangers of all time, Girls in the Hood by Megan Thee Stallion. And he did. So, for the good karma, I'm here to review "a Mahler symphony," per his request.
I'm no music expert. I have little to show for the five-ish years I played piano and even less for the six months I've been practicing ukulele and harmonica, for loss of a better way to pass the time. I can barely read sheet music anymore, and I'm not interested in trying. However, my earbuds are never more than an arm's reach away, and I think I know a banger when I hear one. Let me put you on a truly fantastic song.
It's the first day of December! Today marks the beginning of many seasonal festivities, such as putting up holiday lights, cramming for midterms and finals, cursing out the sky when it gets dark at 4:30 P.M., and unwrapping Advent calendar chocolates (okay, that was Sunday, but you get the point). It's also that time of year when Spotify and Soundcloud send you a lovely notification to remind you of all the times you cried, laughed, danced, TikTokked, and showered to certified bangers. Fun fact: my most-listened to song for 2020 was "Boy Problems" by Carly Rae Jepsen. Yeah, I know. Anyways, here is my official roundup of the fifteen hardest songs that dropped this year - some artists regularly topping the charts like Billie Eilish, Anderson .Paak, and Jaden, others more underground like Linda Diaz, Ana Tijoux, and dua saleh. Take a listen and let me know if you agree/disagree with my selections!
